Message from Family: We are a tight-knit, loving family that loves to be active and to spend time together. The pandemic has made us grateful to have a wonderful home and family close. Dad was born and raised in Denver. He works full-time in the technology industry (currently mostly from home). He is a budding chef and making pizza in our outdoor pizza oven is his specialty. Mom grew up on the East Coast. She loves to ski the Denver-area mountains and bike on the Cherry Creek trail. She is currently in between jobs (most recently worked in the technology industry as well). Before moving to Denver 3 years ago, Mom, Dad, our oldest daughter, and dog (7-year-old King Cavalier Spaniel and Poodle Mix) lived in San Francisco. Our youngest daughter was born in Denver, where we also welcomed another dog into our lives (a 2-year-old Border Collie and Poodle Mix).
About the Children: Our oldest daughter is our sweet, zany, and thoughtful 5-year-old girl who is the light of our lives. She loves to run around, read books, make up imaginary worlds with her friends, little sister, and/or toys depending on what's available to her, and sing and dance. She will be entering Kindergarten next year. From the ages of 1-5, she has benefitted from the care of Spanish-speaking nannies and is now completely bilingual. When Madeline was four months old, she had a liver transplant (donated by her dad) and as a result, she takes immunosuppression medicine twice a day (7 AM and 7 PM). It is critical for us that she is in the care of someone responsible who we can count on to make the right decisions. Despite her medical history, she is perfectly healthy and developmentally, exactly where you would expect a 5-year-old to be. There is nothing she can’t do. Given COVID-19 and our daughter's immunocompromised status, it is absolutely essential that anybody taking care of her be safe and responsible. This includes being fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19, being willing to wear a mask indoors, and periodically taking at-home COVID tests. All masks and tests will be provided by family and we expect indoor masking to only be necessary for a few more months.
Our youngest daughter is 2 and a half years old and a born entertainer. At our home, she never stops talking and she loves to make people laugh with her delightfully unique brand of verbal and physical comedy. When she learns something new (like jumping), she looks for opportunities to incorporate her new moves into dance routines and comedy bits, often requesting participation from mom, dad, nanny, or sister. Likewise, in the car, she likes to request specific songs (recent requests include songs from the Happy Feet soundtrack). She has great concentration and she likes to see a task through to completion. Even if she gets frustrated, we’ve noticed that she doesn’t give up easily and only becomes more motivated to figure out a solution. And then once she’s accomplished her goal, her next instinct is to do it all over again as a way of commemorating the victory. As a result, her fine motor skills are incredible! She is very extroverted and a bit zany. She is also very verbal and will try to do a lot of things to make everyone around her laugh. Her facial expressions are hilariously exaggerated and expressive. You always know where you stand with her – she is an open book when it comes to her thoughts and feelings. Like her sister, she speaks Spanish and is equally verbal in both Spanish and English. She sleeps well, reliably naps once a day, and is potty-trained except for sleeping.
Their Ideal Nanny: Our ideal nanny is fluent in Spanish. Our daughters are fluent thanks to two prior native-Spanish speaking nannies and we would love to continue with this tradition because it’s been so wonderful! The ideal nanny will be comfortable cooking healthy meals for children, driving children in her car, and helping to keep our house in order (tidying, laundry, etc). Nanny is not expected to cook for adults in the household, and/or clean adult-only spaces. Nanny may be asked to perform the occasional household errand or chore during the girls' school hours. The ideal nanny is attentive and a great communicator. To us, that means things like giving ample notice if she needs time off for appointments or vacations and being comfortable drawing our attention to any issues with the girls. The ideal nanny is extremely reliable and punctual. We hold ourselves to a high standard when it comes to reliability and we expect the same from our nanny. We understand that unexpected things come up; in these cases, the ideal nanny handles these situations with respect and always tries to do the right thing. Our ideal nanny is a very safe driver with a good driving record. We will happily provide a stipend for gas. The ideal nanny has a lot of energy. Both our girls are active and enjoy running around outside, scaling playgrounds, and chasing each other. We also like visiting places like the zoo and the botanical gardens. The ideal nanny is also creative and interested in being an extension of our girls’ learning outside the classroom. Our girls love arts and crafts projects and imaginary play. You’ll find our home is full of paintings, cardboard forts, and other creative works. Both girls also love reading and making up stories. The ideal nanny is prepared to enforce parents’ rules. We don’t have many - we really just want our girls to treat others with respect and to be kind, always. Say please and thank you. Not behave in an entitled way. It would also be great if the nanny is willing to travel (we haven’t done this before but now that our girls are getting older it would be nice to have the ability to do a family vacation with a nanny).
Additional Job Details: We live in the Country Club neighborhood (central location close to lots of activities and an easy walk to Cherry Creek North). Easy, safe street parking and we can provide the nanny with a parking permit. We have two very sweet dogs in our home. Both are hypoallergenic breeds. Our oldest will be starting Kindergarten full-time next year so in her case we mostly need someone to help with dressing, driving, preparing meals outside of school, beginning her bath and bedtime routine, and on occasion, putting her to bed. Our younger child will be attending preschool school 2 days a week starting in late August. On the days she’s not in school, she will be with a nanny all day. Regardless of the girls’ school schedules, we will always guarantee 40 hrs per week. To ensure 40 hours, our ideal nanny is open to working an occasional evening. Driving is an important part of the role.
