Kid-Friendly Activities In Denver

Local childcare services nanny

As we say goodbye to harsh winter weather in Denver (for the most part) and begin to welcome spring back, you might be wondering where to take the kiddos for entertainment in the Mile High City. Lucky for you, Denver is teeming with kid-friendly activities in the form of museums, outdoor attractions, nature, and much more. Get inspired with our ideas below!

Children’s Museum of Denver at Marsico Campus

It may technically be “spring,” but the weather can take a turn quickly in Denver. If ice and snow ruin your outdoor plans with the kids, head to the Children’s Museum of Denver at Marsico Campus. The Children’s Museum has exhibits that encourage young kids to imagine, explore, discover, learn, and have fun. Admission is free the first Tuesday of every month from 4 to 8 pm; otherwise, fees range from $12 to $14 for non-members.

Dinosaur Ridge

Ready to venture out of Denver? Dinosaur Ridge is a short drive away in Morrison. The kiddos will love taking this prehistoric journey through preserved dinosaur footprints and dinosaur bones. The self-guided tour on Dinosaur Ridge Trail is free, so you can go at your own pace. And if they need to get even more energy out after exploring Dinosaur Ridge, you can always let them explore Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre and its trails next door.

Hammond’s Candy Factory Tour

Ever wonder how your favorite sweet treats are made? Take a complimentary tour of Hammond’s Candy Factory, which run every half hour during factory hours. This stroller-friendly tour teaches visitors about Hammond’s history in Denver since the 1920s, plus how they make their delicious candy. This activity is basically the dream of every child (and adult!).

Use a Denver Public Library Museum Pass

If you can’t visit a museum or cultural institution on a free day, use the budget-friendly pass program hosted by the Denver Public Library! All you need is a Denver Public Library card in good standing to reserve passes up to 30 days in advance to one of the many attractions available through this program.

Here are the places included in the program (plus a little info about some of our favorites!):

  • Butterfly Pavilion: a tropical conservatory just 20 minutes away from Denver in Westminster, filled with more than 1,600 live butterflies and other creatures
  • Denver Center for the Performing Arts Behind the Scenes Tours
  • Denver Firefighters Museum
  • Denver Museum of Nature and Science: a popular museum next to the Denver Zoo where kids can explore and learn about dinosaurs, space, history, and more
  • Denver Trolley (May-September)
  • Denver Zoo: observe and learn about the thousands of animals at one of Denver’s most popular attractions
  • Forney Museum
  • History Colorado Center
  • Molly Brown House Museum
  • Museum of Contemporary Art Denver

To book a pass, head to Denver Public Library’s reservation website.

Enjoy the weather at a city park

After being cooped up indoors for the winter, simply getting outside and soaking up the warmth of spring can be a nice activity. The expansive City Park is a great place to do it, and if the kiddos get bored, you can always head to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, the zoo, or City Park Playground. A little further south is Washington Park, or Wash Park, an ideal setting for a picnic, outdoor games, or walking nearby easy trails.

There are so many kid-friendly activities that Denver nannies can take advantage of, this is just a sample of what the Mile High City has to offer.
