Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I be represented by your agency?

Working with our agency has many advantages! Typically working with a professional, reputable agency offers higher pay rate, legal pay, more benefits (paid vacation, paid holidays, sick pay, etc.), and less leg work for the nanny! We assist in building your resume, advocate for you, set up the interview, and facilitate a work agreement for you. We offer backup care for our families in the event you are sick or take vacation, regardless of what package they choose. Owned and operated by previous nannies ourselves, we truly value the nanny community!

How long does it take to get placed with a family?

Typically getting placed with a family could take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. We always suggest applying for every position you are interested in and taking every opportunity to interview with a family.

What are the next steps after my agency interview?

The first step is to sign your Nanny Agreement and send in your requested documents. Next, wait for your resume to be shared with the family and continue to apply for other positions.

Can you send my resume to a family right away?

This depends on where the family is in the placement process. We try our best to send resumes ASAP! Depending on when you interview for the position, it could be up to a week or more before your resume is shared with a family.

What should I bring with me to the family interview?

This is your time to shine! We share your resume with the family via email but it never hurts to have copies of your printed resume and letters of recommendations with you for the family to keep. Sometimes when you interview with a family, the children will be present. If you have a “nanny bag” or a quick age-appropriate activity or toy this could really be the thing that sets you apart during the interview process.

When will I hear back about a job I applied for?

Once you apply for a position, the Placement Coordinator will contact you if are a good fit for the family. Depending on where the family is in the placement process, you could be contacted the same day you apply or even a week later. Once you are being considered for a position, you will receive an email letting you know that your resume has been shared with the family. The Placement Coordinator will reach out to you to set up an interview with the family.

Can I bring my kids with me to work?

While we understand that some nanny positions offer the flexibility to bring your children with you to work, our agency can not represent a nanny that needs to bring their children with them due to our liability insurance policy requirements. We highly recommend finding secure childcare to move forward with our agency.

How will I be paid?

At APF we advocate for fair, legal, taxed pay! Families typically set up pay for their employees through a third-party payroll company.

Will I have a lunch break?

The majority of nanny positions do not have an allotted time for a lunch break where you are “off the clock”. Oftentimes nannies have their meals “on the clock” when the children are sleeping or eat with the children while working.

Am I employed through A Perfect Fit or through the family?

APF is a referral agency, therefore, you are not employed through our agency. You will be employed through the family that hires you.

Why can't I use my own resume?

Here at A Perfect Fit we believe in representing our nannies equally, which is why we utilize the same format for all resumes. This gives all nannies a fair shot and lets their experience, not their resume building skills do the talking. Don't worry! Our resume format is beautiful and many nannies have actually preferred our format over their own! And the best part is that our website will automatically generate a professional resume using the information you list on your application. We will remove all contact information for you and your references as well as all last names and give you the option to edit it as often as you'd like.

I am interested in becoming a Newborn Care Specialist (NCS)! Is there a program you recommend?

Yes! We highly recommend Newborn Care Solutions. Learn more about them here.
